Picturing Online Gaming's Value
ReplyDeleteBy: Jo Twist
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4360654.stm
This article is about the comparison of real life to the virtual world. It seems known that the same things that occur in games, usually also occur in real life. Also, we learn in this article that many people in this world, take their gaming more serious than others. Killing people in real life just because they "stole" an item in their virtual world is the type of criminal activity that sometimes occurs. It seems natural that the same kinds of rules and practices that occur in physical life will happen in virtual worlds too. Earlier this year, a Shanghai online gamer was given a suspended death sentence for killing a fellow gamer when he found out the friend had sold his virtual sword, which he had lent him, for 7,200 Yuan. This kind of criminal activity which happens as a result of events occurring in a game could become more common. I predict that this matter will still continue because some people just don’t know when enough is enough.
I understand from this article that people that live among us in this world, whom play online games, don't have any sense in what’s actually real and what’s virtual. My opinion of this negative because personally I despise video games, online games, etc.
When will people distinguish the difference between real life and the virtual world?

ReplyDelete"Oblivion" Movie Trademark Filed
date: september 9th, 2010
Oblivion is a video game for the Xbox, entertainment system sponsered by Microsoft, as well as a new upcoming title for a movie. The company that received this patent is Zenimax. Zenimax has created many huge titles like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3, Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein, and Rage.
In my opinion, I think that a movie modeled after a videogame is quite innovative because in modern day, videogames are modeled after movies. Moreover, the company that will produce this masterpeice has a laundry list full of qualifications. I hope to see this movie come out really soon so I may enjoy it like many other Oblivion fans.

ReplyDeleteMilitary bans sale of 'Medal of Honor' on bases
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39065153/ns/technology_and_science-games/
This article talks about how the military put a ban on the video game 'Medal of Honor' on bases because you can play as the tail'ban and shoot at U.S. soldiers. It says that soldiers will be able to own a copy of the game but none of the 49 Gamestop locations on base will sell the game.
-I think this act is pointless. In most games if there's a good guy, there has to be a bad guy. As said from Amanda Taggart, "most of us have been doing this since we were 7: someone plays cop, someone must be robber." It's something that can't be altered. I think that this will be the only time something like this happens when it comes to video games.
How does it hurt us to play as the bad guy once in awhile?

ReplyDeleteOnline Gamblers in Finland Will Have To Wait For Casino Launch
http://www.newonlinecasinos.org/casinoarticles/1006/1/1168/Online-Gamblers-In-Finland-Will-Have-To-Wait-For-Casino-Launch.html
This article talks about that Finland accepts online gaming. They talk about the grand opening of a new casino website for online gaming. They also express us how excited people are of this grand opening. The launching date has been delayed for the Finnish Slot Machine Association's (RAY) online casino. The laws in Finland are such that each game has its own limits. Gamblers may not be allowed to bet as much at roulette as they will be able to bet on craps. They also affirm us that U.S.A doesn't support online gaming.
I believe that online gaming in Finland is huge and is going to keep rising because each time new websites are coming out, and each time people get more involved in this. A gaming addiction could affect many people and RAY is going to call more gamers. In conclusion people got to be careful in what they are getting involved. This could end up in addiction!
Are people online gaming for fun or is it becoming addiction?

ReplyDeleteOnline Gaming -- Good Clean Fun? Or Unhealthy Addiction?
http://cybercrimenews.norton.com/articles/online_gaming/index.html
Summary: Children and adults play games, and it’s natural, but not when it interferes with your life. If your children are choosing gaming online over friends and responsibilities, they may be addicted. Children may choose gaming over school work and be putting themselves in danger of online predators. Especially if they use IM features and may give away personal information. You may want to monitor their computer usage and make sure costs don’t get too high for games. Protect your computer from viruses and scams that games may involve.
Facts:
1. Nearly one in 10 children between ages 8 and 18 are addicted to online gaming.
2. There are many characteristics of these reported cases of addiction to online gaming: a teen becomes reclusive; school grades drop precipitously; a child drops out of high school to play games; kids play games 60 or more hours each week; and more.
3. Chatting online with other game players may expose children to online predators.
4. Many popular online games require that players buy the game and then pay monthly subscription fees. Tools, accessories and additional characters cost even more. It is possible to spend hundreds of dollars a month on monthly fees and add-ons.
Conclusion: Parents need to keep track of their kids online gaming time and prices to assure that they don’t become addicted.
Supporting details: Studies on children and other articles. The author uses facts and statistics.
I understood from this story that you have to watch your children’s online gaming and your computer’s resistance against viruses and hackers.
I think that you have to be careful about getting addicted to online gaming, but not be so crazy about your kid or yourself gaming for a certain period of time. Just know your limits.
Question: Do people really get addicted to gaming, or is it just so fun you don’t want to stop?

Online gaming can actually turn into an addiction and therefore it is not healthy.Similar to substance addictions, online gaming addictions are triggered by Individuals needs to substitute real-life human connections, which they are unable to achieve normally.Common to all other substance addictions, people with mental health issues are more likely to be at risk for online gaming addiction. One key component that draws people in is that there is no end to the game; the game can go on indefinitely.People who are dissatisfied and socially awkward can use MMORPGs to reinvent themselves. To much online gaming will take away time from your family, friends and doing activities normal people should do like working on a job or doing activities for school in order to maintain great grades.I think that in the future many people adults and children will increasingly become incredibly addicted to online gaming because of their need to reinvent themselves on the online gaming world. Understand that some people really have a hard time interacting with people or being so social so to make up for that they play games which ranges from video games on consoles like the ps3 to online gaming with computers.I believe online gaming is a huge waist of time.I also believe people should do normal activities that help better themselves or help other people(basically anything productive).
When will online gaming stop taking over people's lives ?

ReplyDeleteOnline Gaming-Second Life: Online game or Social replacement?
www.devhardware.com/...Gaming/Second-Life-Online-Game-or-Social-Replacement/
This article from the author's point of view is pretty much that Second life is a virtual world and could be your, second life. With no experience points or step by step procedures this game is litterally a second life with the option of attaining a master's degree at the University of Louisville, Haravard, and many more while at the same time being in control of your sex life and playing as an adult out in the world. I predict that gamers whole play second life will use this "game" to make their plans for future dates. I understand that this second life game could become an addiction to some players. My opinion on this topic is that online games should be used as a past time, not be considered as a complete second life.
Question: Would having a second life really be seen as a past time, or a complete addiction?

http://news.cnet.com/2100-1040-881673.html
This article begins with a short story on how Dennis Bennet was so addicted to playing the game everquest his marriage was in trouble, he was failing his college classes, and how he wasn't being a father to his one year old son. It then goes onto explaining gaming addiction. Video gaming is definitely an addiction for some people. Some video gamers call everquest evercrack. Video gaming addiction strongly effects peoples lives. Video games can be very attractive. People will someday realize that they need to get there act together and realize they have an addiction an address that issue. There is a possibility that there will be stickers placed on games warning people about video gaming addiction. Video gaming addiction is become more well known by people. I understood that video gaming addiction is a serious issue, and it can even lead to death. People who are addicted to video games literally need to go out and live life and get off there computer. When will these addicts ever face their issue?

ReplyDeleteOnline Games like FrontierVille and StarCraft 2 Show Extraordinary Growth in Bad Economic Times
http://www.prweb.com/releases/frontierville/starcraft2/prweb4486334.htm
This article is about how the growth of online gaming has increased because of how the economy has been. The author compares how in the Great Depression people went to the movies to escape themselves and today people find relief by online gaming. Gamers are 53 percent female and 47 percent are male. Online gaming has increased the growth of Facebook users and now has 400 million users. Zynga is a company that has created Farmville, Mafia Wars, Frontierville and, etc. and is free to all users on Facebook. But they make money selling add-on products.
I predict that if we do fall into a double dip recession the growth of online gaming will increase more if the economy continues the way it is. The author uses facts on statistics of how many people are online gaming in the United States.
I understand that theres a common thing or event that people like to escape life and how the economy is. And, that in the Great Depression they decide to do something even if there had less technology in the 1930s.
My opinion is that even if the economy drops we should always escape ourselves to do something that keeps us happy and away from how much money is coming in or not. And, stop worrying about money.
Question: What is your way of escaping yourself from the bad economy?

The author purpose in to inform us how good and fun the iphone and iPod touch games are.
They came out with a new app called game center and it allows the buyers to buy a sorts of games. It lets you play around the worked with different players and right there when you need it. It’s better than using an Xbox 360, simpler and faster.
1. The new app is called Game center which arrived this Wednesday.
2. It allows you play against friends and people around the world.
3. It’s like having an Xbox 360 that lets you play apps store games.
4. The Game Center interface is sleek and easy to use.
Next, I think it will become bigger and the iphone and iPod touch well become bigger then it is today. Probably all the games that are for Xbox and play stations well not exist any more and only iphone apps well be available.
What I understand from this story is that Apps and games for the iphone and iPod touch are becoming huge and very succefull. It’s the top thing right now.
My opinion is that this is very interesting because I love playing games and now it is easier because you just buy it online and download it and it’s easier and cheaper also. You don’t have to go to the store and wait in line for a game.
Would you like for the iPod touch and the phone to be the only equipments to play games or would you stick forever with the Xbox and placations?

ReplyDeleteUnhealthy Gaming Habits and Addition
http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/%7Ejenchan/OnlineGamingAddiction.html
Online gaming addiction is very similar to drug addiction. This is usually obtained by people who need the fantasy gaming world to substitute real life connections. There are lots of signs when it comes to game addiction, for example unable to stop playing the game and neglect from there family and friends.
There are millions of online games; people with mental issues are more likely to become addicted; a key point in this addition is there is no end to it: and the games with multiple players attract more people.
In conclusion I feel that as technology grows and gaming gets more realistic the gaming addiction rate is going to grow as well.
Gaming addiction can affect any age group. Parents should monitor how long there kids spend playing video games and what kind of games they are playing. That would help with the rate of gaming addiction.
After reading this article I understand what gaming addiction actually is and how to point some out who has a gamming addiction.
In my opinion parents should keep a closer eye on how long there kids play games and video game makes should post something that lets parents no that there game may cause addiction.
After hearing this do you think your addicted to games?

There are two types of games online called which make up the major problems of addiction. There is massively multi player online role playing games and multi user domain games.
Online gaming addiction happens because of the need of a person to substitute their life into a fantasy. The people at risk are the ones who cannot achieve normally in life or people who already have mental problems which will be at a greater risk for online addiction. This addiction can also increase the likelihood of getting a mental disorder. Online gaming addiction is an easy way for socially awkward and dissatisfied people to make a living for themselves.
Some signs of online gaming addiction are neglection of family and friends, dry eyes, sleep disturbances, and the inability to stop playing the game.
Online gaming addiction is as serious as any other addiction and should be brought to studies.
If online gaming causes a harmful addiction, should there be a high cost to play these games?
Should there me a minimum time to how long you can play the online games?

ReplyDeleteThe Dangers of E-commerce
http://www.interparty.org/dangers-of-e-commerce.html
This article describes the scam side of E-commerce and how this can become dangerous because the buyer and seller do not know each other. Buyers use fake or stolen credit cards and online payment accounts or they outright lie about delivery. Negative issues can also arrive even if the buyer and seller treat each other honestly. When a company accepts a customer's credit card and personal data, that data is easily stolen through hacking. Competitors will also hire hackers to take down a site (sometimes referred to as DOS – denial of service) in order to prevent customers from buying. And then, there are the jokesters who hack a site, messing it up just for the fun of it or just to prove they can do it. I can predict from this article that these goods that scammers try to sell can maybe be stolen goods. I understand that your better off shopping in stores rather than online to avoid hackers or scams. I felt this topic was very interesting and I would recommend this to many students my age that shop online.
What websites are these hackings and scams usually being done on?

ReplyDeleteE-commerce: The shape of things to come
http://www.internetretailer.com/2007/04/30/e-commerce-the-shape-of-things-to-come
This article talks about how e-commerce is so advanced. James Connell, director of e-commerce, digital marketing and new media for Roots Canada Ltd., has no time to think far into the future of retail e-commerce. He anticipates change as best he can, he adds, and has a good idea what Roots, known for outfitting the U.S. Olympic Team with its official outdoor apparel, must do over at least the next two years. I believe retailers, are keeping abreast of some cases taking initial steps to participate in-e-retailing trends that are likely to grow in importance over the next several years. Tighter and more customer-serving integration of information across web, more online video and a move toward web TV, phone and wireless devices as both online shopping and payment devices, social retailing as well as social networking. Also new web site applications enable shoppers to search for products based on particular characteristics like color or fabric. In conclusion the web and its derivative technology are spreading through out all of retailing, making stores, call centers, TV and e-commerce sites more interactive and attractive to shoppers. It is eliminating differences among channels.
What other consequences e-commerce could bring?

This article is about ebay's top ecommerce executive leaving.
He is leaving for personal reasons. The executives name is
Lorrie Norrington. This announcement of her leaving comes at
a time when ebay is trying to improve its website to lure
and retain more shoppers. Ebay is one of the top online auction
websites. She was responsible for changing the search system and
lowering the upfront fees ebay charges sellers. Other executives
will have more work running marketplaces for the time being. The
online payments business has grown rapidly. I predict that ebay
will hire another ecommerce executive. This is because since she
left other executives are having to do more work running marketplaces.
Therefore ebay will hire another executive to alleviate this amount
of work.I understood ebays e commerce executive leaving impacted the

ReplyDeleteTeens and E-Commerce: Selling to the Teen Shopper
http://www.ecommerce-guide.com/solutions/customer_relations/article.php/3608016
When it comes to shopping online, teenage users are a contradiction: Most teens don't have their own credit card, yet they love to shop online. For teenage shoppers, it's critical to display the price with the first mention of the product. This is more important for teens than for adults.
About 80 percent of online teens age 12-17 visit retail sites, according to ComScore. This represents an audience of between 12 to 15 million teen shoppers. For example, eBay saw 6.4 million teen users in April 2006, while Amazon saw 3.5 million and Apple saw 3 million. "Teens are so price conscious they don't have a lot of money. In the Nielsen study, "An overwhelming number of kids went straight to the clearance or sale section." A slow loading site discourages all users, but teens even more so.
Teen e commerce is going to continue to grow and be more popular.
Text that's supplemented by graphics and pictures are much more appealing to teens than straight text. "When they compare sites that have pictures with ones that don't, they say 'I want to stick with the site that has pictures. Teens don't mind ads. While adults have 'banner blindness,' and tend to avoid things that look like ads, teenagers notice ads and pay a bit more attention than adults do.
I understood what teen like to have during e commerce. I understood that e commerce is growing in popularity for teenagers.
I think it’s a good and easy way to buy things you need, so it’s convenient for all people even teenagers.
How much has e commerce grown in popularity over the years?

These new type of communication add on, that is not profited by twitter at all, but one business is actually charging for this new product. Well in my opinion this tool can be a good use if some companies or people can see people’s ideas. Although in another fact it can be bad too, I really don’t know why it can be bad but you never know. Also to charge people for this new forms of free add on is not very cool. It is very hard to think ahead in terms of advancing the e-commerce market. It pretty much does it all on it’s own by it’s consumers. Very important steps are being taken to over come certain problems that have occurred within the past four years. Tighter and more customer-serving integration of information across web. New website apps can allow shoppers to search for specific details in certain items/products. This lessons the hassle of going through countless pages just to not find what your looking for in the end anyways.

ReplyDeleteFacebook and Skype Link Arms Against Google
http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/Facebook-and-Skype-Link-Arms-Against-Google-70929.html
The partnership between Facebook and Skype is destined to put an end to Google. The author proceeds this will be a very effective bond that can forever change the ecommerce world, through two companies against one.
According to the article, Skype has an estimate of 124 million active users and 560 million registered users, and Facebook has 500+ million users. In Europe, Skype is strongly known while in North America, Facebook is strong. A partnership between the two will bring numerous growth opportunities, internationally. Facebook has over a hundred million mobile users, therefore a partnership with Skype would open doors in the mobile arsenal. Perhaps your wondering where's the revenue in this partnership? Laura DiDio, principal of ITIC, told the E-Commerce Times.
"There is a lot of money in click-through ad revenue and in licensing." This bond will bring growth to both companies. Skype is known for a less, expensive phone communication and Facebook is known for friendship.
This commitment between two companies fit like a jig-saw puzzle. Not only does Facebook back up Skype in its weak areas, but Skype is also a great tool that will boost up communication. Google is in a position of attack, where these two companies will come together to destroy it. If Google remains a threatened company, this partnership could inspire new bonds that will destroy it. As a student, this bond has a positive and negative affect. International bonds against their enemies is enough to weaken another.
Will international e-commerce partnerships, bring an end to Google?

The author's point of view is that he has made it available to retailers for them to sell Amazon products and they have created templates for the retailers to use for or as their own site where they can refer customer's to visit and purchase the products on that particular site, to get the credit. But it's not free, retailer's have to pay $9.99/month to keep their site and service access available to the consumer. Facts are that one, Amazon has created an online Web Store. Fact two is that retailers can sell products to consumers. Fact three is that the retailer's must pay a monthly fee to keep their site available to the consumer. And the final fact is that Amazon has created templates for retailers to use. I believe that in this way that Amazon will recieve publicity and as that publicity grows then they will eventually have an incline of monthly consumers and before we know it Amazon will be as famous as Mary Kay. Amazon is a mix of eBay and Mary Kay facial beauty inhancing products. I understood that Amazon is doing just what Mary Kay does today. I think they're fine.

http://www.wikinvest.com/concept/E-Commerce
E-commerce is a quick and easy way to exchange goods or services nationally or around the world. This market place has grown into a huge industry globally.
More than 70% of Americans use the internet daily for private or business use. Consumers who use E-commerce affect industries such as travel services, electronics, books, media use, and sports & fitness.
The U.S. recession had affected the sales of online marketing in the past years. In 2008, the revenues for online marketing was 204 billion dollars with a 17% growth rate but in the last seven years there has been a decrease.
E-commerce players are at a more competitive advantage than retailers because e-commerce has lower expenses and better inventory. E-commerce vendors will successfully gain and cause chaos of the business for the retail customers, distributors and resellers.

Even though teens are far more adapted to the internet and technology they have less patience when something doesn’t go right. Most teens will just give up and shut down the process instead of encountering the problem.
4. I believe since more technology is updated and invented there will be more teen shoppers continuously everyday.
5. Based on the Nielsen study, teens finish an online task successfully 55 percent of the time. And, adults complete an online task successfully 65 percent of the time. The generations that are born with the more updated and highest technology will be more adept to the internet than the generation before.
6. I understood that teens are continuously shopping everyday online and that they may more proficient with the technology of today than adults. But, may not complete the online task for lack of patience. However, an adult will complete the task more successfully than a teen.
7. My opinion is that I believe that its true about how a teen will shut down a process and not complete the online task. And, I believe a teen shouldn’t give up on an online task and continue to work until the task is complete.
I believe by everyday there should be more teens to complete the tasks and have the willing to do so.
8. Do you believe that teens are less successful than adults even though they may be more proficient with the technology of today.

ReplyDeleteBuilding Online Gaming Networks Is Harder Than You Think

This article on online gaming is about knowing how hard it really is designing and building a game. Its a misconception that developing an integrated online gaming network is an easy task. Design iteration is just as important here as it is with game titles. You have to Build enough time into your schedule to iterate on these services. It takes a very long time to get the games ready to play . I think that there's specific types of games there creating takes more time to make then others. Before Sta-craft II, Blizzard hadn't released a non-MOM game for several years -- the studio's business had been all about the massively-successful World of War-craft since 2004. I understand that people have to take their time to prepare the game so that it can be perfect. My opinion on this topic is that they should take all the time they need to make games.

ReplyDeleteTeens and E-Commerce: Selling to the Teen Shopper
http://www.ecommerce-guide.com/solutions/customer_relations/article.php/3608016
The author’s point of view is When it comes to shopping online, teenage users are a contradiction. About 80 percent of online teens age 12-17 visit retail sites, eBay saw 6.4 million teen users in April 2006, while Amazon saw 3.5 million and Apple saw 3 million. I think that more and more people are just going to continue shopping online because its cheaper.they have much less patience, and that's why they can't overcome a lot of technological obstacles. If it doesn't work the way they expect, they just abandon the process. I understand that adults don't do it that often as teens but they still but a lot of things. My opionnin on this topic is that you should continue doing it because its easier online.
Why cant we shop online ?
In a galaxy not too far away, online gamers may soon scour the job boards for paying posts as Galactic Empire insurgents or anti-Vader moisture farmers.
ReplyDeleteMassive multiplayer online role-playing games boast subscriber populations that rival those of many North American cities. As a result, game developers are moving beyond simply creating ultrarealistic 3-D worlds. They're also modeling less tangible Earth phenomena such as governance and commerce -- prompting a rise of real economies in imaginary societies.
"Traditionally that kind of kill-the-rat, get-your-five-gold-pieces model hasn't changed with most (multiplayer online games)," said LucasArts producer Haden Blackman, referring to the revenue strategy pioneered by the early text-based multi-user domains on which modern MMORPGs are based. "One of the things we wanted to do is have a more viable player-run economy from the very outset."
Blackman heads up the LucasArts branch of the team that's working with Sony Online Entertainment to produce the first Star Wars-based MMORPG, Star Wars Galaxies, set to hit shelves in late January.
The elaborate handle for these online role-playing games is shortened in various ways throughout the online gaming industry: MMOP, MMO and MMPOG, in addition to the Star Wars Galaxies-styled, MMORPG.
Typically, MMORPG gamers move through elaborate environments as digital action figures called avatars. Successful adventures yield monetary rewards that can be used to purchase equipment and clothing.
This really comes down to scale. All products have to be shipped from the warehouse where they're stored after manufacture, and it can be quite a bit greener to cut the retail store -- and all the building, lighting, cooling, heating, and so forth that the store requires -- out of the equation. According to the Center for Energy & Climate Solutions, shipping two 20 pound packages by overnight air -- the most energy-intensive delivery mode -- still uses 40 percent less fuel than driving 20 miles round-trip to the mall or store or wherever you're going; ground shipping -- which is much more efficient than overnight air -- checks in at just one-tenth the energy used driving yourself.
ReplyDeleteHow does that work? While your car is likely to get more miles per gallon than the truck that's likely shipping your stuff (truck freight accounts for about 2/3 of U.S. domestic shipping), your car only has you (and maybe a passenger), while the truck can be hauling up to about 30 tons of cargo (that's a fully-loaded truck at the legal limit for gross vehicle weight). So you, your buddy, your car, and your 40 pounds of package (on the way home) burn about one gallon of gasoline in those 20 miles.
Shipped 1,000 miles in a truck, your package accounts for about 0.1 gallon, and if you choose to ship by air freight, that number hops to 0.6 gallons; it's all thanks to the hundreds of other packages that are presumably along for the ride. And, even though your online order doesn't go from warehouse to your front door in the same loaded truck or airplane, companies like FedEx and UPS are working to upgrade the efficiency of their routes and fleets, since faster, more-efficient service saves them money.

The author's point of view is using a full-ecommerce service provider has its benefits. Most notably it allows the e-store owner to focus on the tasks required to run the business and spend less time involved with the technology needed to manage the online store.
Some facts are Q1 2010 U.S. retail e-commerce sales estimates showed online retail spending neared $34 billion for the quarter, up 10 percent versus year ago. The strong acceleration represented the first time growth rates reached double-digits since the second quarter of 2008.
What I understood from E-commerce is you can apply to purchases made through the Web or to business-to-business activities such as inventory transfers. A customer can order items from a vendor's Web site, paying with a credit card.

ReplyDeleteTitle: Facebook Does About-face With Your Privacy
Link: http://www.fightidentitytheft.com/blog
The author's point-of-view is that through Facebook he wants to make the world a more open place and he claims he has created that breathing room for people to really express themselves and share their thoughts with their friends, but Zuckerberg wanted more. He wanted people to see more of Facebook so he pushed people to write more, post more statuses, more pictures, and make more things public. But it got to the point where it became a hazzard. All he is doing is increasing his revenue and his internet dominance. Facebook is even more widely used than Google.
Is Facebook really a free online site where we can share our own thoughts and experiences with close ones, or is it Mark Zuckerberg's tool to his own success and make his own riches?

ReplyDeleteWhat is Corporate Identity Theft?
http://www.spamlaws.com/corporate-identity-theft.html
This article talks about how corporate identity theft has the impact to leave a once prominent business crippled with negative consequences. These malicious hijackers move in extreme stealth mode, allowing them to hack into a number of systems without a user becoming aware until it is much too late. Corporate identity theft is on the rise, literally costing many companies a fortune. In the end, many hackers have proved that it doesn't take a rocket scientist nor a criminal mastermind to spot and take advantage of the many opportunities at corporate identity theft and fraud. I predict that if indentity theft becomes more of a problem than it already is, people will start to use computer less to decrease the risk. In order to defend your corporation you must carefully manage your data, manage a security breach, do not panic, and be prepared. I understand in this article that I need to believe that this could happen to me and be careful. I feel this topic is extremely informative and should be exposed more to the society as our technology increases.

5 people charged with staeling IDs from Holy Cross Hospital
The author seems to think that this is a major violation. He describes the many possibilities and thoughts behind such a tradgic feat.
Five facts are that they were stolen from Holy Cross Hospital, five people were arrested and charged, many employees are under supervision of security, this all happend in Cleveland, and they were stolen by a technician, Orr, who printed out many basic versions of information.
I can conclude that security in identity theft will be built and worked on till it is perfect. No one wants to run into these problems.
The details of this story are shockingly scary. A team was devised to get the information, organize it, make credit cards and other false documents to gain money.
I understand that many people do not have money and will go to great lengths to get more. I learned that no body can be trusted.
I, personally, am shocked. I never knew how corrupt a hospital could get.

ReplyDelete10 ways to stop identity theft
http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/banking/financialprivacy/p33715.asp
Identity theft is a huge problem in the U.S. Every year there's about 750,000 victims from identity theft. People think that it won't happen to them but simple mistakes they make put them at a high risk. Easy ways to protect yourself is by destroying statements and other private records, making sure you don't leave receipts behind at the gas pump or anywhere else, and making sure you keep your social security card safe.
I think people will start to realize that they can easily put themselves at risk and will hopefully try to make these corrections to keep their identity safe.
I learned that identity theft, though not always taken seriously, can happen to anyone by not taking simple precautions in your everyday life.
Will we ever be able to get rid of identity theft and stop it for good?

ReplyDeleteAmericans at Risk for Identity Theft
http://www.identitytheft.com/article/3-ways-government-puts-americans-risk-identity-theft
The author states that Congress has passed a bill enforcing stronger identity theft protection and three ways that the government fails to follow id theft protection rules.
Social security number theft is the most dangerous form of identity theft because people can open new accounts and get hold of credit in someone else’s name. It is estimated that 52 million Americans carry their social security number in their wallets and that can be very risky. In the military his or her social security numbers are printed on their military ID cards, military personal, dog tags, duffel bags, and even inside of some uniforms. Having one’s social security number in numerous places can put one’s financial life at risk.
Statistics say that the elderly are at the most risk for having their identities stolen.
My prediction is that more bills don’t get passed on reducing the risk or people not speaking up to the state representatives’ identity theft will get worse every day.
And, the Senate has introduced a bill in order to rude the identity theft risk among the elderly. But, Congress needs to pass this bill and more bills in order to protect the American lives.
I understood very clearly that social security number is the fastest growing crime in the United States and needs to be stopped soon before it gets out of hand.
Could Americas bills really protect the people from identity theft?

The Federal Trade Commission says identity theft occurs when someone steals your monthly, order and review credit reports, information such as your social security number or your credit card number to commit fraud and other crimes. Four steps to preventing identity theft are reviewing financial statements monitor credit history, and secure personal info online and offline. When taking action to stop identity theft from happening, report the fraud to one of the crediting agencies. Watching that you do not get identity thefted is very important and worth the while doing. I believe that credit agencies will find even more improved ways to stop identity theft.

Identity theft is our country's fastest growing crime, targeting 1.3 million people last year. Floridian the top ten states for identity theft and with new technological advances every day, thieves are constantly refining their scams. Many scams exist like the one that make you think won the lottery. The chances of bringing identity thieves to justice are pretty slim. It takes some victims months, or even years to realize what's happened. it looks like it could still take her months to recover. The best thing you can do is keep an eye on your credit. Some companies are making it even easier for the thieves. Investigators offer information online. Anything with personal information on it, once in the wrong hands, can ruin your credit. One of the oldest internet scams involves the e-mail telling you you've won a lottery sweepstakes. Identity thieves are getting more sophisticated, as evidenced by the latest scam targeting Gulf Coast residents. I predict in the future, many more people will be the victim of identity theft and the identity stealers will become more able to access people identities. I understood from the story that identity theft is very common and it could happen to people who post their information online. I think identity theft is a horrible crime because many people can money from there accounts taken out and it could possibly ruin someone’s credit. I also believe it is inevitable for it to happen because of the easy access to people’s information on the internet. I would like to know how people can truly prevent identity theft from happening to them.

Identity theft, also known as ID theft is a crime in which a criminal obtains key pieces of personal information, such as Social Security or driver's license numbers, in order to pose as someone else. The information can be used to obtain credit, merchandise, and services using the victims’ name. Identity theft can also provide a thief with false credentials for immigration or other applications. One of the biggest problems with identity theft is that very often the crimes committed by the identity theft expert are often attributed to the victim.
There are two main types of identity theft – account takeover and true name theft. Account takeover identity theft refers to the type of situation where an imposter uses the stolen personal information to gain access to the person’s existing accounts. Often the identity thief will use the stolen identity to acquire even more credit products by changing your address so that you never see the credit card bills that the thief runs up.

People think that identity theft all started with the computer, but the fact is identity theft started way back; it started when basically there was any identity to be stolen.
In the older days it was to kill somebody and simply take their identity, in times where photo IDs the practice was much easier to get away with.
The most common form of identity theft in our modern times now is using the computer and cell phone fraud. People use the computer to hack into other databases to receive financial information about that person, or they will use the phones to take the place of that person and get the same information from a bank official of anybody else.
Other common forms of identity theft are digging trash and stealing people’s mails and other ways of receiving personal information.
Some ways of protecting yourself from these thefts is before throwing away your mails, you are to shred your papers before trashing them. Second make passwords and store them in secure locations. Third never give away too much information to a caller even if they seem to be someone who is required to receive your information. Fourth protect your computer with up to date software’s for spy-ware protection and viruses .
